Born in Hobart, the biggest city in the island of Tasmania, Australia, Ronan grew up in the shadow of his parents whom were Olympic marathoners that won medals in the 1980s. While he joined his two sisters in jogging for long distances with their parents while growing up, he eventually turned to basketball seriously enough to make it his top ambition in sports while his siblings became professional marathoners. Because of his family, he lived an active lifestyle and he kept himself fit athletically. When he was twelve however, he moved to Vancouver, Canada with his family and while he remained a ‘Canadian’ for the rest of his life thus far, he would annually return to Tasmania in the winter seasons to visit his grandparents and extended family. Even today, he considers himself a Tasmanian first, Australian second, and Canadian third.

Ronan started basketball early with outdoor pickup games during recess times in school, and participated in YMCA basketball leagues in Vancouver. He learned the sport’s fundamentals there, and in both junior and senior high school, he became team captain as their starting point guard. With his parents’ support (and especially funding), he also participated in Canada’s Youth Basketball camps and Summer Leagues, where he further honed in and improved his craft enough to catch the eyes of college basketball recruiters.

In 2016, he received offers from Calgary Technical Institute, UFLA, and Furniversity Southern California amongst others, but ultimately decided on Pack Territory University due to their still-strong basketball program. However in late 2018, he surprised everyone, including his coaches and college teammates, when he declared to enter the FBADL when the FBA opened the developmental league for future draftee players. Not only does he work hard with the ambition to become one of the best rookies in the FBA, but also set himself to work toward a Hall of Fame-worthy career and one of his biggest ambitions after retirement is to return to Tasmania and become a founder of a professional basketball team there for Australia’s professional basketball league.

After declaring to enter the FBA D-League, the Sedona Vortex signed him in and he remained there for the rest of the season. He played well enough to earn a spot in the FBADL ALl-Star Game, and in the 2019 Draft Combine, he finished second overall in the trials.
