Biography
Leafe hails from the Forest Of Dean, a region where forestry and mining are the chief employers. A child of a pair of conservation scientists, her upbringing has been fairly privileged relative to much of the Underwood student body. Her interest in basketball was kindled at an early age by a grandfather who installed a hoop outside his house for the benefit of the grandkids. A somewhat free-spirited child, Leafe’s inclinations have always been more “right brained” than much of her immediate family. As such, her decision to try to pursue a career in sports seems to have had a mixed response. “It’s a bit of an elephant in the room, I suppose,” she has said. “I think you’re only here once, and you’ve got to make some waves before you go.
Not exactly a high flyer, especially when compared with her teammate Ptolemy Addams, her ability to get off the floor is still fairly exceptional. She’s athletic enough in that area to have dunked more than once in her college career. In rebounds, she’s in a team-wide first-place tie with Addams, and she’s second in points scored. She’s also very good on perimeter defense. However, her ability to hold her own against more elite competition is still shaky. Though she’s starred in multiple big wins this year for UDUB, and is responsible for playing a role in getting the team to the 3rd round in the FCAA finals this year, she also struggled to produce the further the team advanced.
