When it comes to running in the family, Emily could write a book. Born to Kenneth and Tracy Peterson in 1996, Emily grew up with big brother Jason Peterson. The two were close and shared a love of basektball; they were big Healey Davis fans and Emily geeked out on him a little, having a jersey and a card collection. Her prized card was a 1988-89 Lopps Healey Davis rookie card, obtained with a shrewd trade in her youth.
Jason and Emily regularly played pick-up in the driveway with the family hoop. And as they grew, their games were more competitive and they grew closer. In time, Emily beat Jason with shrewd play instead of brute force to the basket. She took this into rec league and school play, becoming a solid star on her freshman year team in Columbus High School. When Jason left for Atlanta Tech, Emily attempted to keep in contact with him as much as she could, telling him about her progress into the school's best player in her senior year.
Emily was accepted to Florida Everglade shortly after, coveted for her good height. Though it was somewhat far from her hometown, she felt right at home in the big city. She quickly caught eyes in her first game off the bench as a freshman, one person especially. After the game, Emily was approached by a leopard freshman named Terrence Blake. He was a physics major and a little shy, yet he mustered enough courage to unshakily ask Emily to meet him for dinner the next day. Emily broke into giggles, impressed by his boldness. He called her Giggles ever since and her teammates quickly picked up on it.
She agreed to the date and that meeting grew into a relationship. Emily and Terrenece's relationship blossomed into romance and they were married before their senior year. Emily took Terrence's last name and continued her solid play as the team's starting power forward. Despite having less contact with her big brother Jason, she was happy. Happy with her husband, her family and her career.
The Peterson family legacy is about love, laughs and basketball. Emily hopes to keep that going for as long as she can.
