Biography

Change can be scary. And if it were up to Aslanbek, he would like for things to change as little as possible generally. In reality though, things are seldom that simple. Aslan would love to be loyal to a team, and have teammates that he knows like family, but Basketball doesn't make it so simple.

Aslanbek has been on more travel-teams than he can count from his time growing up. From a young age it was clear that he had a natural ability, and it manifested in his family giving him as many opportunities as they possibly could to allow him to develop as a player, learn the techniques and fundamentals, and play as much Basketball as possible. But although he was getting plentiful opportunities to play against fierce competitors, and alongside fellow prodigies, Aslan grew lonely. As quickly as he would forge bonds with his teammtes, he would have to move on the next. Basketball was practically year-round for him, as he was pushed to take every opportunity to improve. But even as Aslan continued to put in the work and grin-and-bear-it all, his older brother Andarbek could tell; Aslan was going to burn out if things continued like this. So although he wasn't as gifted at Basketball, he went alongside Aslan to everywhere he could to be an anchor in his life. That even as things continue to change in Aslan's life, Andar would be there for him.

And although things are seldom that simple, Andar kept his word, putting in hard work to earn his place alongside Aslan everywhere he goes, up until the moment it was time for Andar to go to college. Aslanbek has become an incredible talent, and a well-rounded one at that. With a great shooting touch combined with honed defensive instincts, he was college-bound and carried with him some lofty expectations. However, much to the ire of his family who had pushed him to take on every challenge and be on the best team he possibly can be at every chance given, Aslan wanted to go to a college where Andar could transfer in and still be a part of the team. In the end, they wound up committing to Green Ravine University, an up-and-coming program that insisted they can check off all the boxes.

Aslan figured that college would finally be his time to become part of a team that felt like a family. That for 4 years he would get to forge unshakable friendships as well as compete against the best of the best, en route to one day joining the FBA.

Once again, it's not quite that simple. Joining an up-and-coming program means there is going to be growing pains. So although there were some familiar faces, there was a lot of change in the air as the Green Ravine program attempted to bolster their squad, and bring in new faces that could take the team to the next level.

It all culminated in his Junior year. Green Ravine had assembled a team that was generating some national attention. Aslan had become friendly with some of the familiar faces from last season, but over the course of this year, the Green Ravine team would become like family. Even though he knew it wasn't slated to last, what with Andar set to graduate soon, Aslanbek figured that things would be ok for his Senior year at Green Ravine.

But things are simply not that simple. Through their teamwork and their strengths and talents, Green Ravine put together a truly outstanding season. It meant that not only had Green Ravine qualified for their first ever FCAA tournament, but they were coming in as a 2-seed. They lived up to those expectations, culminating in a runner-up finish at the National Championship.

Although Aslan didn't think too much of his efforts individually, he was named a member of the all-FCAA team. His prude in attaining such an award dried up quickly though when he was greeted by national media attention, and a clamoring for him to declare for the Draft a year early. And once again, Aslan did what seemed like the "correct" thing to do, leaving behind the found-family he felt he had finally formed.

From this point forward, Aslanbek's story is unwritten. He is merely an FBA hopeful, looking for his chance to carve out a legacy on the biggest stage of Basketball there is. All of his work has led him to this point. And among it, Aslan asks himself if he can finally become a player who is a loyal, beloved anchor for an FBA franchise.
