Biography
Childhood/ School Life
Maverick Jamison Taylor was born in 2004 to Jamison Taylor (A well known chef) and his wife Delilah. He was the second eldest of the family, having an older brother, a younger brother and two sisters. His family ran a restaurant called the Southern Bayou in their small town which was extremely popular for locals and tourists alike. From southern food to desserts, the Taylors had it all. Maverick wanted to be just like his father growing up- he wanted to be a successful chef like him. Unfortunately, Maverick would learn about the skeletons in Jamison's closet.
When Maverick was around 12, he learned of a horrible secret. For years, his father Jamison was having an affair with one of the waitresses at the restaurant. His mother was enraged, demanding how he could do this to her- to her children. Word began to spread quickly throughout the neighborhood about Jamison's infidelity and he would flee in the middle of night along with his lover. That was the last time Maverick ever saw Jamison. And as time passed, he saw how it effected his family. The restaurant still got support thanks to family, friends, neighbors, and staff, but the effects of what happened still ran deep. Maverick would grow angry as a result, resentful towards his father and his actions. His grades would begin to slip. And by the time the gator was in his freshman year of high school, he was starting become more and more of a problem. The school officer noticed this, and decided to have a heart to heart with the young gator.
"If it wasn't for Officer Diaz, I think I might have ended up in juvie. I'm serious, that bear kind of did save me there. We would meet up at the courts after school and we would just play 1v1, sometimes a 3v3 if my friends were around. Hell he even helped me get on the school's basketball team. I owe a lot to him, and I wont ever forget that." ~ Taylor commenting on past school experiences.
The young gator would fall in love with basketball because of these meetings, and he would choose to pursue it when he entered his college years.
College
Nearing the end of high school, Maverick would get a scholarship from North Star University. This was HUGE for the gator as he was rejected by a local college due to his his behavior, but this university was willing to give him a chance! By next fall, the gator was shipped of to North Dakota. He would start out on the bench, as star players like La'Tika Bambrick took the court. But by his sophomore year, he was a full fledged starter. With Maverick's impulsiveness, Coach Ford had paired him with one specific player: Matilda Shanahan. The two would grow close throughout the 2023 season, playing off of each others strengths and weaknesses, which would earned North Star its first ever FCAA championship in two decades. They grew even closer as both players would become captains and would have another shot at a second title run before falling short to Chicago Bay in the sweet sixteen. Despite this loss and his own doubts, Maverick knew it was time. Along side Matilda, he would declare for the FBA Draft, hoping to become a better man than his father was.
Trivia
-Its a well known fact that Maverick has a crush on Matilda. He's just too nervous to ask her out. -He got his nickname "Dunk Gator" for the multiple dunks he made during NSU's 2023 FCAA run. -Maverick absolutely despises anyone who cheats on their partners. His own father's infidelity is also the reason why he refuses to be called by his middle name, which is also his father's name.
