Theodore arrived at the Oak Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glenadale. Quite a ways but it wasn’t too much of a hassel to drive there. He wore his only suit that he had, with the assistance of his agent that watched him over the time he was placed under Trivol’s care-taking. He drove his Prios-C into the memorial park and drove up to his parents’ grave sites. He drove forward and noticed that there was no one near his proximity. He glanced his surroundings to make sure nobody was around. He had his gym bag and clothes hanger in the back. He drove around the fountain in the center and headed north and parked his car along the side of the road.
He turned off the engine with the press of a button, getting out of the car. He moved towards the trunk of his vehicle and pulled on the door to reveal his violin case he had. He grabbed the case by the handle, closing the door and locking the car. He placed his brown hand into his pocket while carrying his violin case with him. His footsteps were maneuvered carefully, respecting the ones who have fallen. He reached onto a small hilltop from the group of trees that surrounded him. Theodore slowed down his walking speed and saw his parents’ stone plots stationed there. There they were: his parents’ grave standing side by side. Mark Rockwell (April 17, 1960- August 9th, 1996) and Serenity Rockwell (May 18, 1967- Feb. 27th, 2010)
Then, he sighed and a couple tear drops trickled down his red fur. “Hey Mom, hey Dad.” He placed the violin down on the ground carefully and tucked both his hands in his suit pockets.
“Dad, I finally figured out what you meant when you said I had to find the one thing that kept me back. I now figured it out. I was afraid of failing you and kept that only in mind and not realizing that I have to play from my heart. Glad you told me or else, I would’ve been in a worse state than I was before.”
He sighed and tears trickled down his face as his auburn eyes continued staring at the pair of stone plots. “I had a good time at the FBA Draft Combine held in Huntsville, AL. I certainly played from the heart, but I didn’t make the top 24,” he paused before continuing on. “A lot of my friends said that they were shocked that the committee didn’t picked me.” He said, wiping the tears away with his hand and smiled. “I will show them who I am and what I’m made of! Mom always told me to always play from here.” His finger pointed at his own heart and smiled. “And turn my negative emotions into strength. I finally understand what she meant. There is always room for improvement. No use in thinking about my failures. I will become the best Power Forward that the FBA has seen!”
He said, while giving off a smile and glanced down at the plots, especially his dad’s. “Hey Dad, remember that nickname I didn’t like? Well, there’s an interesting character I met who calls me that. His name is Cassidy Whitelatch. He reminds me so much of you and how outgoing you were. Really happy to have met him. He called me ‘Rocky’ and for the first time, it didn’t bother me in the slightest. In fact, that’s what he calls me on a friendly tone,” he laughed a bit to himself, carefully not drawing any attention to himself.
After his laughter subsided, he grinned and knelt down, opening his violin case and pulled out his instrument. “I have learned a lot from my agent Trivol McKenley. Uncle Max introduced me to him and started living with Trivol. He’s taught me a lot of following my dreams outside of basketball. It’s helped me ease my mind from the aftermath of the Combine. I have a song I want to play for you both.”
He got his bow ready and placed the violin underneath his chin, positioning the bow on the starting string and began to play a sorrowful song. The song sounded crisp, full of emotion that he played the song with such an unforetold energy. The music echoed throughout the memorial park and Theodore swayed to the music as well, while playing the music so powerfully but with such elegance and grace. There were no words to describe this captivating, but sorrowful song. He closed his eyes and let the music just carry him as far as it needed to go. While offering tribute, there was a sudden release of his negativity he felt and just carried out his passion. This visit was exactly something he needed to do and tell his parents that he made it back from the combine. He wasn’t going to let the results hinder him. He will certainly do his best to push himself and is going to attend the best basketball camps around the US to help him get ready for Draft Night.
After time passed, the song finished and let the notes of the song echo and fill the environment before getting out of his violin position. His heart suddenly felt a hundred times lighter for him. He had a smile drawn on his face. He knelt down and hugged both their plots and nodded. “Thank you both for watching out for me. I’ll play for you from now on. I will take care of myself and I will learn to place trust in others.”
He put away his violin and bow back in the case as well, latching on the lid to the base. He picked up the violin case, seeing their plot stones for one last time before things will be busy for him. He had to get his act together and play his best to get him ready for Draft Night. He went to his car and placed the violin in the back seat, next to the gym bag he brought with him. “Perhaps I will go get some jogging on the beach.” He said while taking off his suit jacket, then his tie, then his collared shirt. He placed them on the clothes hanger that he brought with him in reverse order. He opened his gym bag before he felt the coolness of the wind brushing against his athletic body. He took a spare shirt that he had and wore it over him. Then, It was time to change his bottom attire. Retrieving his shorts, he looked for a public restroom nearby. Luckily there was one across the street. He held on his tennis shoes while he walked with his dress shoes on him.
Theo walked across the street, being careful of his footing as he stepped on the grass hoping not to step on other people’s graves. The harrowet reached the restroom and got into the stall. He took off his pants there in the stall and carefully putting on white socks and running shorts before comfortably putting on his running shoes. Once he changed his apparel, he walked out of the restroom and towards his car, putting his dress pants and dress shoes in the back.
He got into the driver’s seat and adjusted his rear view mirror, putting on his brown sunglasses. He glanced back at his parents’ graves one last time, sighing to himself and smiled. “Thank you, Mom and Dad. You’ve been always been watching out for me. I’ll be all right from here on out.” He then drove off to get his morning routine started without a second to lose.
