An early double-digit lead by the visiting Mayors was erased in a tight match that was won by the hosting Typhoons on a game-winning buzzer-beater lay-up by Franz Volker (Doberman, G).

Both teams were coming off losses to close out the month of February, but the divisional rivalry between these two clubs only heated up. Steven Standard (Stoat, G) and Hassan Kamal (Camel, C/F) led Huntsville to a quick start to the game, finishing the first quarter up by 8 and reaching a peak of 12 points early in the second quarter. With 2K's shooting a bit lukewarm in the first quarter and rookie Morey Christianson (Grizzly Bear, C) ineffective against fellow rookie Dewitt Azad Ghakhar (Markhor, F/C), Tallahassee's head coach Hildegard Tetreault (Hyena-rabbit, HC) had to re-work the club's offensive strategies. The new gameplan saw veterans Edward Hudson (Coyote, F) and Adrian McCormick (Badger, F) sliding over to cover the pivot spot for brief spurts while Christianson and backup center Jason Peterson (Spotted Hyena, C) were rotated in during stoppages of play. Volker would pick up half of his 13 assists for the night in the second quarter alone as the Typhoons would trim the deficit to only 3 points at halftime.

It was in the last two quarters of the match that proved to be the difference maker, particularly when rookie Augustin Benoit (Bat-eared Fox, G/F) rallied the home crowd around the team with four consecutive shots, including his only three-pointer for the night. The Mayors were still able to keep pace with the Typhoons, but they finished the third quarter down by one. The final frame was a see-saw battle with Augustin Benoit having the hot paw and racking up the points while Gerald Puck (Coyote, G) and D’Angelo MacQuilkin (Lion, G) sank their own shots from open looks off passes from JuJu and rookie Cloricia Teixeira (Coyote, G).

The last Huntsville possession almost spelled disaster for the home team as Standard's layup rolled through the hoop while drawing a foul on Chuck-Chuck, forcing the 'yote out of the game with his sixth. Surprisingly, the generally consistent one-eyed mustelid missed the extra point from the free throw line, leaving the score tied at 94 apiece. With only 3.1 seconds left on the clock after A-Mac snagged the rebound, the Typhoons immediately called a time-out.

For the final play of the game, McCormick managed to inbound the ball to Augustin Benoit, but knowing he still had the hot paw the Huntsville was on him quick. The fox was quicker, however, lobbing the ball towards the basket as a rushing Volker had leaped up and tried to complete the alley-oop by laying the ball up off the glass instead of going for the dunk. The ball bounced twice on the rim before swishing through the net after the buzzer had gone off, resulting in the doberman giving Mayors' coach Howard Schnitthund (German shepherd, HC) his infamous finger point before getting dog-piled by the rest of the Dawg Pack.

While it was assumed that 2K would've received the game honors, especially with an assist double-double and the game-winning bucket to finish with 14 points, it was the rookie Augustin Benoit that was the key player in the home team's victory -- his 25 points led all players and the lone assist to Volker was the game winning pass. Russell Savoy (Binturong, G/F), the other rookie on Tallahassee's starting line, earned a double-double of his own with 10 points and 10 rebounds for the night. The Typhoons travel north for their next game, visiting the Eastern Conference leading Plymouth Taproots.

Steven Standard led all Mayors in scoring with 21 points to go with his 7 rebounds and 3 assists. Hassan Kamal was a rebound short of a double-double with 14 points to go along with his 2 blocks. MacQuilkin and Puck both scored in double-digits off the bench, contributing 11 and 12 points respectively. Huntsville hopes to break their four-game slide in their next game on the road against the Williamsburg Minutemen.
