Biography

Just don't get him talking. Watch the tapes, read the recommendations from his coach and trainers, and look at his stats. Please don't get Elliot talking. Here, I'll even do the whole bio thing for you so you don't have to ask him.

When I met Elliot's parents, they told me that he didn't say a word for the first five years of his life. They thought there was something wrong, and they brought him to all sorts of language learning specialists and doctors to figure out why. It was the strangest thing, though - he clearly understood every word that people were saying to him, he had fine motor skills, and some of his specialists figured out that he was even reading simple words.

The day his parents finally brought him to school, having held him back from one year, they were nervous about what would happen. They went to drop him off with his kindergarten teacher, and when she asked what his name was, Elliot immediately opened his beak and said, ""Well hi, I'm Elliot!"" What followed (as his parents stared on his stunned silence) was several solid minutes of Elliot explaining what he had eaten for breakfast, that his favourite colour was yellow like his feathers but not like yellow bananas, that he thought rectangles were just bad squares, and that the material of the carpet in the classroom was like the material of the carpet in his family's living room, all while his new teacher stared on with mounting nervousness.

Since then, Elliot has just... kinda not stopped talking. Well I guess that's not fair - it's just that it's very difficult to get him to stop talking as soon as he starts. He kind of builds up momentum as he talks, and it takes some serious social skills to halt that energy.

The only exception to this is when he steps onto a basketball court. His grade 1 teacher discovered this during gym class, much to his relief. Put a basketball in the cardinal's wings, and it's like all of the energy that normally barrels out of his beak instead moves to him dribbling and running around the court. It was so effective that when Elliot started doing tests in school, his teachers would bring him to the gym for a few minutes beforehand to practice basketball and slow down his talking.

So yeah. Since then, Elliot's always been a welcome teammate to any basketball team on the court, and an incessant chatterbox as soon as he steps into the locker room or takes a seat on the bench. His more chill teammates get along with him just fine, but it's not uncommon to hear a deafening chorus of, ""Shut up, Elliot!"" ringing out from his team's locker room after particularly bad losses.

Anyways, great kid, great basketball player. If possible, get him to answer any questions in writing. If he does get talking, don't take anything he says too seriously, and um... consider just walking away. He'll stop on his own after a bit.
