FBA Universe

The FBA Universe is the fictional world inside which the Furry Basketball Association exists. Based directly on the modern globe, the FBA Universe features a few unique qualities that sets it apart and are important to know to understand how the FBA is perceived by the world it serves.

Overview

The FBA Universe is based on a real-world globe, with equivalent continents, oceans and national boundaries as found in the 21st century. Technology levels are equivalent to modern society with similar national and cultural divisions. While there exist some historical events that are unique to the FBA Universe, for most purposes, all real world events should be assumed to have equivalent furry events.

People of the FBA Universe

The entire planet is populated by furries, anthropomorphic animals with intelligence equal to humans and physical attributes that both fall behind and supersede those of humans, depending on species.

Regions

While species may adopt origins matching those of their real world counterparts, (i.e., kangaroos come from Australia, coyotes come from North America, etc.) travel has been advanced for long enough that many species no longer live in regions associated with their real world species. All furries are capable of surviving in all climates on the globe with adequate technology, though many species have to take extra measures in certain environments.

A few examples:

• Reptiles, amphibians and other cold-blooded species must take special care in cold environments. Reptile athletes that have played for the Alaska Arctics commonly use heat lamps when seated on the bench.
• Species with large amounts of fur can overheat in warmer environments. Very furry athletes in hot climates may need to hydrate more frequently, though all playing venues are required to keep the court temperature within a certain range.
• Amphibians, fish, and other species used to staying wet may have to use swamp coolers or water sprayers to stay moist in very dry environments.

None of the above services are unusual to FBA arena managers and are expected to be provided to athletes who require them.

Diet

All furries in the FBA Universe are omnivorous. Even species that are real world herbivores are capable of eating meat without ill health effects. However, species that are real world herbivores may culturally eat near-exclusively vegetarian diets, while real world carnivores may eat near-exlucsively meat diets.

The FBA Universe has domesticated non-morphic animals that make up a massive meat industry to feed the anthro population. Furries do not see themselves as being related to any non-morphic animals. (So, yes, a morphic cow can and will eat a steak.)

The agriculture industry is culturally handled by real world herbivorous species, though not exclusively.

Hybrids

Hybrids refers to furries that are of mixed species. While hybrids do exist in the FBA Universe, there are rules regarding them.

In general, any natural real world hybridism can exist in the FBA Universe. Because a wolf and a dog can interbreed in the real world, there is no difficulty with there being a wolf-dog furry character. Because a horse and donkey can produce a mule, the same can happen for a mule furry character, but also the same rule of sterilization would apply.

Beyond the natural real world hybrids, the FBA Universe does allow for unnatural hybrids between furries with the assumption that all unnatural hybrids will be infertile and that no more than two species may be combined. Hybrids should be of two reasonably close species with the FBA Committee holding final decision on approving hybrid characters.
