Biography

Barghest, Garm, Yeth hound, Church Grim, Wishthound, Black Shuck, they're known by many names, but even if you don't know what to call them, they're easy to recognize. Large black dogs, with nearly solid colored, highly reflective eyes, making them appear to almost glow at night.

Traditionally, Eldred's kind were known to be caretakers for churches, cemeteries, also working as undertakers or morticians, leading to an association of his species with death, darkness and ill fortune; Fewer recall that their keen nightvision made them very effective nightwatchmen. However, Ever since his great-grandparents immigrated from Blythburgh to Baltimore and opened their own business, The Black Oak Pub, they've worked to try and change that negative perception of their species for them and their family. Through the generations, The Black Oak Pub has remained a family business; the modest drinking establishment steadily growing over the years. Expanding the bar, the kitchen, seating, and most recently, The Darragh family have started a small brewery, serving their own handcrafted beer in their restaurant. The family had grown around helping run and manage all parts of the business; helping instill a good work ethic in Eldred and his siblings.

While Eldred wasn't the largest of his siblings as a child, but by the time he reached highschool, he'd outgrow them to be nearly six feet tall. His large form would become quite useful as he got into playing highschool basketball, and his coach was quick to move Eldred to play as a forward. Using his size to his advantage, Eldred was an aggressive defender, not afraid to take an opportunity to block a shot or making rebounds whenever possible. His defensive abilities were key to helping to win crucial games when one or two baskets made all the difference. With the black shuck on their side, Eldred's Highschool team made the finals two years, and brought back the championship trophy twice.

Deciding to go to college wasn't a difficult choice, it was something his parents encouraged, however Eldred didn't want to leave the familiarity of his hometown or family, he enrolled at Baltimore Bay University in Maryland. When he wasn’t involved with basketball, Eldred kept himself busy with his college business courses or helping at the family’s pub.

Throughout Highschool and into his early college years, Eldred was already one of the larger players on his teams, but Eldred just kept growing, soon topping off over seven feet tall. His college team's coach decided to cross train Eldred as a center, but kept him mainly as a forward. The large shuck preferred to play barefoot, his digigrade legs and large footpaws making footwear uncomfortable, only when he was required or felt it was necessary would Eldred wrap his feet. Eldred’s aggressive playing style, and his dark red eyes earned him the nickname of Grim among his teammates.

Eldred became somewhat infamous for his use of intimidation during a critical game of his senior year; when the opposing team’s point guard went for a layup, A snarling, fang-baring Eldred caused the herbivore to stop in his tracks, allowing a teammate to steal the ball and make the winning basket of the game. With the season finished, and just before graduation, his coach encouraged Eldred to apply for the FBA draft. Eldred knew he had the ability to play in the FBA, and was determined to prove himself.
